Windows Easy Transfer is a free tool from Microsoft designed to help you copy all your documents, photos, music, emails, favorite videos, User Accounts, and more on a computer running Windows XP to another running Windows 7.
You can transfer your files and settings over the network, USB cable, or removable device, such as stick and external hard drive.
The only prerequisite is that both computers must support the transfer method you choose. For example, if you choose to transfer the data via the network, both computers must be connected to the same network.
As its name suggests, the program is very easy to use, just run it on Windows XP computer and follow the onscreen instructions.
Then you run Windows Easy Transfer on your Windows computer 7 and again follow the onscreen instructions to complete the transfer of data. When the download is complete you will see a list of what was transferred.
Note: To open the tool in Windows 7, go to the Start menu, type in the search box “Easy Transfer” and then click Windows Easy Transfer.
